I spent the weekend in Calgary for their Pet Industry Trade Show. This was a completely new experience for me. Over the past couple of months, I have been on the phone a ton calling reps and distributors to track down my favourite cat and dog products, and to find new and unique ones for the store. It was so nice to match faces to names.
My favourite part of this process has been how extremely supportive everyone has been. It's pretty fun when 'working' includes sharing photos and stories about our pets!
One of my first stops was at Drool Pawtisserie. Their booth and packaging have this really cool 50s vibe. Jennifer Roy, the owner, explained to me how all their treats are made in Calgary. The flavours include gingerbread, rosemary infused beef, bacon, parmesan reggiano, and more. I got some samples for Abbie and Bullet to try out. They were a big hit! I'll definitely be carrying these.
One of the big distributors, Anipet, carries a bunch of my favourite brands including Go!, Now Fresh, Earth Rated, PureBites, Waggers..and more. Trevor, their Rep, is extremely friendly and helpful. I'll be meeting with him later this week to place a big order. Exciting!
Another big distributor is Kane Pet Supplies. They are the main distributor for Acana and Orijen, which are big favourites here in Edmonton. Both are manufactured nearby in Morinville. Lisa, their Rep, is a gem. She has been extremely helpful in identifying the best cat products.
People were lined up at Kooky Kat, which is a catnip company out of BC. The owner is hilarious, and their branding is quite something! I came home with a big bag of samples, and my cats went BANANAS for them. Wow! I have never seen them react to something like this! I have to carry this stuff!
Mr. Styles has been licking their 'Feline Pleasure Pal' for over an hour!
One of the booths I wanted to track down was Pet-Tek because I love their supplements. I have used their Calm-Aid for Abbie's separation anxiety, and their Immune Booster to help in her recovery from cancer. They are based out of Leduc. I love supporting local businesses! I discovered that they make leather couches for dogs. The quality is amazing. I definitely need to get one of these for Abbie and Bullet!
Pan Pacific Pet had a big booth at the show. Their brands include Fromm, The Honest Kitchen, Fruitables, and Zignature. Zignature has a line of Kangaroo kibble that is great for dogs with allergies. One of my best friends literally tried everything for her puppy, and this is what finally worked. Pan Pacific Pet is another great company that I look forward to working with.
There are so many more examples of cool products that I would love to share with you...but I'll wait to tell you when I can show you in the store and online!
I am focusing on sourcing out as many local and Canadian based products as possible. There are some great products out of the US too that are definitely worth trying. I know you all love spoiling your furry friends as much as I do!
